Buddha Bowl

Buddha Bowl

February turned out to be even better than anticipated at The Highland Weigh headquarters! Yes there were lovey's for Valentines day, we squeezed in a pancake or two just to be polite on Shrove Tuesday and there were some sweet acts of kindness for Random Acts of Kindness Day. But it was the launch of The Buddha bowl that had us wondering if the month could get much better.

I have long since believed that the best food comes in a bowl. Imagine chunky soups with a hunk of bread for dipping, eve's pudding and custard, stews, casseroles, curries with naan bread. Well the Buddha bowl has to be up there with the best. "why?" I hear you ask.

Well...

To start of with, the Buddha bowl has a story.

Buddha woke before sunrise every day and walked through the streets of the village or town where he was staying carrying his bowl. The local people would place food in his bowl as a gift. At the end of his walk Buddha would have a meal that consisted of the various dishes prepared and generously shared.  The original Buddha Bowl: a mixture of dishes prepared and then gifted.

Secondly, lets talk about those hard working critters in the gut. Without going into too much detail it seems that our microbes like variety and the Buddha bowl has an abundance of variety. If there was a meal to start those microbes  doing the Conga its the Buddha bowl, maybe with a cheeky glass of Kombucha and a carafe of our finest Highland water.

The final thing that elevates the Buddha bowl is how you eat it. Me... I like to keep the bowl neat, eating from different sections and dipping into the warm satay sauce. I'll not mention names but others empty the sauce into the bowl and mix all the elements, the bowl becoming a delicious chaos of flavours.

However you approach your Buddha bowl is cool with us. March has some serious work to do to trump February...Conga anyone?
